Carry Me
by Tim Lowly

Brian Volck in the on-line blog “Image: Art, Faith, Mystery” writes: “Lately, I’ve been reading some works at the intersection of theology and the impaired body. As a physician trying to live as a Christian, that’s where I spend much of my professional time. While I treasure idealized portrayals of the human figure in classical and Italian Renaissance art, I, like you, perhaps, am an imperfect body in a suffering world. In my life and work, I experience pain and suffering less as a brutal shattering of perfection than a familiar, often ironic companion - Here’s where I find the work of (21st century) visual artist Tim Lowly so compelling. His daughter, Temma, who appears frequently in his paintings, has a constellation of impairments Lowly never disguises. - Lowly lovingly places his daughter in contexts which neither idealize nor demean her.

Wednesday Night Live Suppers

Times at our church “they are a changin’ “!!

The Wednesday Night Live Committee met last week and we need to tell you what we discussed and ask for your input about our  current plans.

There will be a series of “Short Studies” after the meal clean-up: from 7:15 to 8:15pm, the subject of which will be announced prior to the study so you will have time to make arrangements to attend any one that interests you. There should be a note elsewhere in the newsletter about the first one.
Real Buddies will not be meeting throughout the summer but will resume in the fall. If you will require child care this summer so you can attend a study, please let us know.

We have asked for the same donation for food since Wednesday Night Live began. As I’m sure you are aware food costs are on the rise.We have also found it necessary on many occasions to use paper products due to busy schedules that do not allow people time to help with clean up. We have always been self supporting, taking no funds from the main budget. In order to continue, we feel it necessary to increase the suggested donation to $4.00 per adult and $2.00 per child.

We also would ask you to PLEASE Sign up, preferably by Sunday so we know how much meat to thaw for the meal and how much fruit & vegetables to buy. We used to be able accommodate 2-3 people extra, but lately we have had to cook for 10 to 15 extra people because so many people neglect to sign up, and we really want to be able to feed anyone who wants to come. But this results in our either giving away or throwing away extra food when these people don’t come, which also increases our costs.

If you have some comments which would help us with the direction we should take, please let us know - either by phoning one of us or by email if you have internet access. Also, please let us know if you will be attending regularly, just for special studies, and if you will need child care.

Thanks,
Bobbie Hulson:871-9270; Keslinn Kohfeld-Stout: 588-9571;
Brenda Hoschele:324-5853; Peghi Webb: 397-4677.
