Child Haven
 Child Haven is a licensed child care center which serves families with
children from 2-6 years of age. We have the capacity to serve 60
children per day, year round. We are an out-reach program sponsored by
the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
Child Haven serves an economically and culturally diverse clientele. We
have single parent families, dual working families, and families who
want to expose their children to a higher level of education and
experience that they cannot get at home.
Child Haven prides itself in the fact that we are one of the few centers
that is willing to take children with special needs. We also serve
children who are funded by state subsidized programs.
Child Haven bases its program on a non-religious curriculum that
enables us to serve all of the community regardless of race, color or
creed. Child Haven also offers extra curricular activities that parents
may not be able to participate in if not offered during the time their
child is in school.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY:
The philosophy of Child Haven is that children of preschool age learn
best through the play experience. It is important for children to be
children. Our children spend a lot of time outside involved in running
, climbing, playing games, getting dirty and just having fun! It is the
responsibility of the teaching staff to provide activities that are
not only fun but also educational. Our children are involved throughout
the day in settings that are classroom-based with other children of
their age level. Time is also spent in settings of mixed age and
development level. The children interact daily with all adults at the
center. Activities and materials are available throughout the day with
which the children can expand their knowledge of their environment,
develop both large and small muscles, increase vocabulary, strengthen
social skills, be creative, and develop skills needed for success in
kindergarten.
ENROLLMENT:
Child Haven is licensed to care for 60 children per day, form the ages
of 2 years through the 7th birthday. It is a full year program. You
may choose anywhere from 5 days per week to as few as 1 day per week.
The facility opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.. Child Haven does
close for all holidays.
All chldren must be current with their immunizations and have a physical exam and T.B. screening within 30 days of enrollment.
STAFFING:
 For our 2-year-old classroom, we have two teachers. In the
older classrooms the ratio is 1 adult to every 12 children.
All of the Child Haven staff members are Early Childhood Professionals.
They have all earned the required college credits to be recognized by
the State of California as an Early Childhood teacher. In addition,
each staff member has set individual education goals and are working
toward them.
EMERGENCY PREPARATION:
Child Haven has on site enough food, water and other needed supplies to care for all the children in case of an emergency.
Every other year all Child Haven staff members are trained in children's First Aid and CPR.
MEALS:
A breakfast, lunch and p.m. snack is served daily. The menu reflects
all food choices from peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to chicken and
gravy. Fresh vegetables and fruits are served in preference to canned.
Low fat milk and wheat bread are used.
