Carry Me
by Tim Lowly

Brian Volck in the on-line blog “Image: Art, Faith, Mystery” writes: “Lately, I’ve been reading some works at the intersection of theology and the impaired body. As a physician trying to live as a Christian, thatís where I spend much of my professional time. While I treasure idealized portrayals of the human figure in classical and Italian Renaissance art, I, like you, perhaps, am an imperfect body in a suffering world. In my life and work, I experience pain and suffering less as a brutal shattering of perfection than a familiar, often ironic companion - Here’s where I find the work of (21st century) visual artist Tim Lowly so compelling. His daughter, Temma, who appears frequently in his paintings, has a constellation of impairments Lowly never disguises. - Lowly lovingly places his daughter in contexts which neither idealize nor demean her.

Join us for “Friendship First”

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

 Who?      All 4th - 6th graders

When?   Starting September 10th, and meeting the first Sunday of each of the following months (except December).

Time?    Following church, from approximately 11:30 - 1pm.

Friendship
First
is a youth group curriculum that compares our friendships with
others to our friendship with Jesus.  At each get-together, the kids
will participate in games, snacks, Bible learning experiences, and daily
challenges which give the kids a fun, safe opportunity to explore
relationships as they explore how God relates to people.

We
will eat lunch as part of our get-together. Parents will be asked to
take turns providing a simple lunch for the group. Thank you!

Please contact Joe Meyer, Kendra Kohfeld-Stout or Lara Norman-Kehe for more information!

It’s Real Buddies Time this Fall!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Now that school is in back in session, make sure that Real Buddies (3 yrs - 6th grade) is part of your routine and schedule!  We will continue to meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 - 8:00 pm in Room 8.

We
also invite you to our Wednesday Night Dinner at 6pm in Plymouth Hall.
This is a great time for fellowship with other families and church
members — and one less meal to prepare each week!  We have a rotating schedule of meals, which is posted in Plymouth Hall, and the suggested cost is $3/person.

One
thing new for Real Buddies this year, is that while we will meet as a
whole group (preschool - 6th grade) for about half of our meeting time,
the other half of our time we will break out into age level groups.
Barb Norman will be working with the preschool/kindergarten age kids
during the break-out time; Kendra Kohfeld-Stout will be working with
the 4th - 6th graders; and I will keep the 1st - 3rd graders with
me.  In this way we will have a sense of unity during our whole group
time, while the kids will also have time spent just with their
age/grade level peers, too.

Looking ahead, here are some events to make note of???.

Saturday, September 8th:  Anuual Church BBQ
In addition to a great meal, we will have a bounce house, a magician (from 6:15 - 7:45pm) and
plenty of “Fun & Games”!

Wednesday, October 3rd:  Baking Bread
As
part of World Wide Communion, and in support of the “Great American
Bake Sale” (which supports “Share Our Strength” and raises money to
help end childhood hunger), the children will be baking bread to sell
during Coffee Hour.  I will need plenty of volunteers to help with this
project!

Sunday, October 7th:  Children’s Sabbath
We
will be selling our homemade bread, during Coffee Hour.  Following the
Bake Sale, we will meet in the Chapel for a professional puppet show,
put on by Omnipresent Puppet Theater.  Cost is $4/person.  All are
welcome to join us!

Saturday, October 27th:  Halloween Party
There will be plenty of family fun & entertainment — including “Trunk-or-Treating”!  More details to come!

Please contact Lara Norman-Kehe if you have questions, or to volunteer for any of these events & programs!
